In 2007, the Critter Barn piloted a Critter Camp program for students involved with Kids Hope from two area churches. Working with partnering churches and Virgil Gulker, founder of Kids Hope USA, twenty-three at-risk youth participated in a life-changing experience at our farm. In 2008, this program is made possible for seventy students due to the generosity of The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area, the John and Judy Spoelhof Foundation, and private gifts. |
Recipients of Critter Camp Scholarships:
- must be between the ages of 8 - 16
- attend a three day class
- receive instruction about farm animals
- enjoy hands-on opportunities
- learn where food and farm products come from
- become comfortable with the animals
- are given a real farm experience
- receive a photo album, lunches and snacks, and a Critter Barn T-shirt
